Kerbdog tribute album

The UK independent co-owned by Therapy? drummer Neil Cooper, Stressed Sumo Records, is releasing Pledge – A Tribute To Kerbdog on March 5.

Described as “a tribute to a band that never received the acclaim or attention they deserved”, it features contributions from the likes of Dutch Shultz (‘Hard To Live’), Mike Got Spiked (‘Dry Riser’), Knievel Genius (‘Inseminator’), Frank Turner (‘Sally’) and Left Side Brain (‘Severed’). Among those contributing sleeve-notes are Hot Press contributor Edwin McFee.

The Kilkenny rockers will be guests of honour at the Dublin launch party.

“Watching the 'Dry Riser' video at 4 a.m. on Raw Power is a moment we'll always remember,” enthuse Mike Got Spiked. “Kerbdog had a sound and image that was fresh and intense. Their debut album was a constant fixture in our stereos — to be emulated and dissected. The fact that this sound came from a Kilkenny band was amazing. It gave a much-needed kick in the groin to the Irish rock scene. It said: 'F**k you! Irish bands aren't all like U2 and The Hot House Flowers. Some of us actually have talent!'”

Our Cormac Battle and the boys will be the guests of honour on March 6 when Dutch Shultz, Cars On Fire and Stations play the official launch party in the Dublin Academy 2.
