Here's what happened on Today's show...
With news breaking of job losses in Aviva, Ryan spoke to Maria who has worked in Aviva for eleven years. Maria was not able to sleep last night she was so shocked and upset.
Ryan also spoke to Emma, whose husband works in Aviva. Emma had been awake since 2.30am worrying. Emma said her family are getting no information from Aviva or the union, she said they are finding out their information from RTE News bulletins.
The TG4 presidential debate was on last night and one of the most interesting things to come out of it was the question of the National Anthem. Although none of the candidates said outright that they would change it immediately, nearly all of them would consider changing it. Professor of Modern Irish History in UCD, Diarmaid Ferriter PhD BA spoke to Ryan about the origins of the National Anthem.
Ryan chatted to Donal Harrington who has just completed the gruelling Tour de France route. Donal was working as a truck driver and weighted 17stone. His father gave him a bike as a present to help him lose some weight. When Donal's father died, he was inspired to change his life and train to cycle the Tour de France route. Susan and her family arrived back at their house in Dublin on Sunday to find a beautiful red coloured, large goldfish on the back porch. At first they thought it was a child's toy, but then it started moving. The family's cat Cosmo is quite a hunter but had never brought home a fish before. Susan put the fish in a bucket of rainwater and is looking to reunite it with its owner or find a new home for it.
A few weeks ago, we spoke to Kevin Murphy about his father Laurence, know to all as Bobby. Bobby was taken ill in Dublin City Centre on September 20th and was helped by a stranger who called an ambulance and performed CPR. Kevin wanted to find the stranger so he could thank him. Today Ryan spoke to that stranger...Barry Egan. Barry was working in the city centre that Tuesday and at about 11am he came across Bobby leaning up against the railing at Trinity College, holding his chest. Barry called an ambulance and put Bobby in the recovery position. Barry is from Scotland and had served with the Territorial Army so had some CPR training. Barry thinks it is important that everybody learns how to do CPR.
Legal Editor with The Irish Independent, Dearbhail Mc Donald, joined Ryan in studio to talk about Women in the Dock. They discussed the cases of Amanda Knox, Catherine Nevin, The Scissors Sisters and Louise Woodward.
Ryan announced that Theresa Mc Donald's house in Wexford is the location of our Halloween show next Tuesday. We'll be all be dressing up....even the house will be dressing up in aid of Barnardos. www.2fm.rte.ie/dressup
