Last Friday we got a text from Adrian Bolton who was in Holles Street Hospital with his wife Helen. Adrian chatted to Ryan today about the arrival of his baby son. Baby and Mammy are both doing great.
After asking listeners to let us know what Awards they have won throughout their lives Ryan chatted to Phil who still has a certificate she won in 1967. Phil won the cert after coming first in a cookery competition held by the Alliance and Dublin Consumers Gas Company.
Ryan also spoke to Elisa who won a Disney Mickey Mouse reversible jumper when she was 12 after winning a Dance Off to Erasure's 'Give a Little Respect'. She hasn't won anything since!
Ryan spoke to Alan last month when he found out that he no longer has a job in Talk Talk, where he had worked for the last eight years. Almost 600 stafflost their jobs when Talk Talk closed the doors for the last time on Friday. Ryan caught up with Alan today and discussed how he and his colleagues went out with a bang - they organised a big night out on Friday with cheap drinks and an overnight in a local hotel. They were going to stay up and watch the match on Saturday morning. Alan and his fiancée have made the decision to return to Western Australia. They hope to be there for Christmas.
RTE Sports reporter Damien O'Meara chatted to Ryan about the Irish soccer team beating Andorra 2 - 0 nil at the weekend. Ireland will play Armenia tomorrow night in the Aviva stadium. They only need a draw to qualify for play offs.
Denise spoke openly to Ryan about having an affair with a married man for five months. They were never physical but had an emotional affair after meeting at a wedding and staying in touch through email before meeting up.
Patricia also spoke candidly about her affair with a married man in the 80's in the UK. At the time Patricia didn't know he was married. When Patricia told the man she loved him he announced that he was married. She ended it there and then. Patricia was contacted six weeks later to say she did not blame Patricia for the affair. Patricia got another call from the man's wife to say that he had died of a brain haemorrhage. The wife remarried a year later but Patricia took years to get over him.
Tomorrow, Ireland comes face to face with Wales in the Rugby World Cup. Rugger Bugger Brent Pope joined Ryan in studio to build up the excitement before he was sent off on his bike on a special mission for the show...
Louise Heraghty got in touch after hearing Ryan talk about Richard Harris yesterday. She was interviewing Hollywood star Russell Crowe when the conversation turned to Mr. Harris. They had become firm friends on the set of Gladiators, in 1999. Harris' main topics of conversation were rugby, followed by his love of Limerick, the craic in the pubs he drank in, and his passionate love affair with Kilkee. Russell and Richard had bought tickets for the Ireland/Australia match at Lansdowne Road, in 2003. Unfortunately, Richard died before the match and Russell broke down in tears recalling their friendship.
Liza lived in the UK for 10 years and when she came back to Ireland she was single and found it hard to meet people so she joined a dating website - www.makingfriends.com . After trying a few dates that went nowhere, she got chatting to another guy on the site and spoke to him on the phone. This went on for a few months until they finally met up - they instantly clicked. Liza went into the toilet and texted a friend that she had just met the man she was going to marry! 3 months later they went on holidays to LA and Vegas and had a ball. They moved in together when they returned and got engaged, had a baby and got married! They now have an 8 year old and a 3 year old.
Anne got in touch with the show to talk about her mum who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year. She had surgery to remove a tumour during the summer and has had many complications along the way but has been told she is on the road to recovery. The thing is, Anne's mum has nobody else to turn to for support - so few people have and survive pancreatic cancer. The news of Brian Lenihan and Steve Jobs' deaths from the same form of cancer worries Anne greatly.
Sinead met her husband over a 3 minute date! A speed-dating night out sealed the deal for her! One year later they were engaged with their wedding and baby to follow. All that after both of them had been in long term serious relationships due to marry others.
With previous best-selling novels about ancient Rome, post-War Europe and post-Blair Britain, high flying financiers does seem like a bit of an unusual leap for Robert Harris. To explain all, he joined Ryan live in studio to discuss his latest book 'The Fear Index'.
Ryan spoke to Ger Earls, father of Irish rugby player of the moment, Keith Earls. Ger watched the Ireland v Italy match at home with his wife and his daughter. He prefers to watch matches they don't attend quietly. They always have injury worries at the forefront on their minds a little about him during a match.
Sent on Tubridy's secret mission, Brent Pope arrived by bicycle at Andrew Synnott's primary school, Belgrove Boys School in Clontarf. Ryan spoke to Andrew on the show a few weeks ago about his appearance in the O2 Rugby World Cup ad. He's the kid who picks Johnny Sexton for his team during an impromptu kick-around. During his call with Ryan Andrew mentioned his mammy put his precious signed rugby jersey in the wash and all the signatures were washed off! Brent presented Andrew with a brand new Irish jersey signed by ALL the Irish Rugby squad. Andrew's mammy Aisling can now breathe a sigh of relief!
Ryan chats to James Nugent, the Incoming Managing Director of the Lisney estate agency, about the ad that appeared in today's Property section of The Irish Times stating that Áras an Uachtaráin is up for sale. It's a hoot! Take a look...
You supposedly can't teach an old dog new tricks, but the Austrian marketing industry has come up with a novel way to sell pet food - by designing an advert that only canine consumers can understand. Ryan played the advert, which uses high-frequency squeaks and signals to grab the attention of any dogs in the room. The idea is that they will become so excited they will jump up and wag their tail at the screen, until the owner relents and buys the promoted product. We waited for the response...
Jackie's dog Millie was in the car when the ad was playing - it got her attention straight away...!
Ann'sdog licked the radio and cocked her head from side to side! She's an 11 month old German Sherherd / Golden Retriever mix in training for the blind.
There's a saying 'you can choose your friends, but you can't choose your work colleagues'. How true is that?! Our resident weird fact finder and odd-survey collector Andrea Pappin joined Ryan in studio to take a look at office etiquette, awkward office moments and cringey colleagues...
On today's Nob Nation, Joe emphasises the importance of being positive...
Peter called in to say he worked with a guy who used to make his sandwiches for the week all in one go and eat them day by day from the same manky sandwich bag! Come Tuesday, the smell was disgusting, nevermind Friday! People would move down the table away from him in the canteen, further and further as the week went on. He once saw maggots crawling around one of the sandwiches. Before he said goodbye to Ryan after disgusting the masses with his story, he took the opportunity to tell his wife Muriel that he loved her. He said he doesn't get to tell her often enough so what better way than on the national airwaves?! Ryan invited Peter and Muriel to join him in the audience for The Late Late Show at the end of the month so that he can celebrate his 40th birthday with a night out.
Yesterday, Apple launched the latest version of their iPhone, the iPhone 4S, and in a poignant twist, Steve Jobs their charismatic founder lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Damien Mulley, communications consultant spoke to Ryan about the man who changed the face of technology.

Ryan spoke to Hugh Hourihan, owner of The Boar's Head in Capel Street about the pub landlady in the UK who won a landmark court case against the Premier League which could bring more televised football to the public. Fed up with paying a huge subscription fee to Sky to show matches, Karen Murphy instead bought games through a Greek satellite broadcaster for a cheaper price. Hugh says he pays about €9000 per year for TV - if he showed no sports he would have no customers and so he's opening his pub early for the rugby this weekend.
Aoife got in touch to tell Ryan about how it was love at first sight with her now husband. When she was 17 she went to the Witnness Festival, about 9 years ago. She was totally unprepared, bringing with her only a tent and a pair of flip flops. On the first night she went to see The Chemical Brothers and was dancing bare foot in the muck having a great time. She noticed a guy sitting down watching her. They got chatting and hung out for the rest of the night, arranging to meet the next day. 9 years later Aoife and Yam are happily married and have 3 lovely children.
Marie shared her story of finding 'The One'. She's happily married 18 years now and has 3 lovely children with a lovely New Zealander she met in a bar in London. She knew instantly that this was the man for her. They hit it off and she managed to persuade him to move back to Limerick with her. She's been over to New Zealand every few years and she loves it there but their home is here in Ireland.
Sinead met her husband online, but not with a dating agency. She was on a chat room [the Facebook of 10 years ago!] and they arranged to meet in a local bar. She was dubious and thought it could be a washout. Alas! They fell in love and are now married 5 years - and baby number two is due in March!
Ryan spoke to Miriam Devitt who teaches mums with babies how to communicate with each other using basic sign language. She teaches mainly near her home in West Clare. SuperHands Baby Sign Language is for ALL babies. They are a company dedicated to teaching babies to communicate effectively before they can talk. Baby sign language has been shown to have many advantages including reducing frustration, increasing parent/child bond, and reducing tantrums, encouraging early speech and helping babies develop emotionally. Long term benefits include more confident children, a greater vocabulary at school going age and a higher IQ at the age of 8. But most importantly it fun! For more information visit www.superhands.ie
