March 2010 Archives

Saturday 27th March

On the road again ...... we were in the rebel County this Saturday as Tommy & Hector broadcast live from the RTE Cork Studios.

Tommy & Hector Cork .JPGTommy is still looking for a horse and Hector gave us a Spanish lesson.  We heard Dave the travellers latest story from Iran as well as getting some advice from the listeners on Cork nightlife.

Hector provided a travel guide to South America and Tommy discussed the merits of smoking a pipe.

Tommy Pipe Cork .JPGCork's finest FRED joined the lads in studio performing two songs 'Running' and 'Jimmy Jimmy' live, they even let Hector have a go of the drums!!

Back to Galway next week...........

Saturday 20th March

The lads were on the road this week with Tommy in the RTE Cork Studios and Hector fresh off the plane from Cheltenham in the 2FM Studios at HQ in Donnybrook.

Hector told us stories of the goings on at Cheltenham over the week while Tommy decided that maybe he should follow in Hectors footsteps and buy a horse.

We heard about the lads driving through Ballinasloe in the sea hours of the morning with a sea gull CD turned up full blast.

Tommy discussed his wanderlust how he wants to be dropped off in the middle of the wilds of Donegal or Kerry and will perform a small gig for food and a bed for the night.

What were the lads first jobs well to find out click on listen back or download the podcast

As we were not in the mothership in the West this week there is no webcam video sorry

Saturday 13th March

Ceol, Craic agus Ri Ra - On the show this week Tommy & Hector kicked of the celebrations for La 'le Padraig

Tommy reminded us of the true meaning of Saint Patrick's Day as he recited Saint Patrick's Breastplate (the way it should be read!!)

The studio was packed to the rafters as the full Kilfenora Ceili Band joined the lads in the RTE Galway Studio and sure the sound blasting out of the place was only mighty a few reels to start the pre - Saint Patrick's Day celebrations .

John Lynch the leader of the Kilfenora told us stories of the bands history while Garry Shannon gave us an example of the art of 'Lilting'

As Tommy said there is nothing more Irish than dancing on the radio - sure they'd try anything on this show.

Brian and Irene Cunningham with musicians Yvonne & Tom members of the fantastic Irish group 'Fuaim Chonamara' joined the lads in studio for some Sean Nos dancing on a half barrel and the half door

Saturday 6th March

From Funerals to 80's Rock you never know what Tommy & Hector will talk about next.

This week we heard some funny funeral stories from going to the wrong funeral to wearing the dead mans jacket.

Hector claimed there was no such thing as an 80's rock tune while Tommy disagreed and sang him some examples ..... Rock wasn't the only musical genre up for debate as the lads discussed ceili bands (tune in next Saturday for more ceili)

Tommy got his feelings about the new Dublin Galway Motorway off his chest and the loss of the towns along the way.

Percussion, horns and decks in studio it could only be Galway finest The Disconauts who played live
