Listen to the Electric Penguins Studio 8 Session

Recorded - 14 November, 2011

2fm Studio8 Session

The Electric Penguins are:
Mark Cummins - Main Vocals, Chordetta (Italian fan powered reed keyboard), Korg MS20 synth
Paul Murphy -Vocal, Guitar, Mandolin, Nord Clavia Synth, Tibetan Bowl.
With
Tony Brereton drums
Barry Grace piano
Paddy Kiernan bass

Bonded by influences from Kraftwerk to David Lynch movies and much besides Electric Penguins formed amidst a mutual love of vintage instruments, prog-rock and 70's electro legends. The group (these days - Paul Murphy and Mark Cummins) released their debut album in 2007 to substantial press acclaim and promising radio support. Lots of praise for the group's second album entitled "II", has come in the form of plentiful airplay. Indeed "II" was among Dan Hegarty's Top 10 albums of the year. Lead single "Highgate Hill" has delighted media and muso alike.

The Penguins talents can also be heard on Channel 4's "Sounds From The City" series in partnership with BOBCOM.com. The pioneering independent music website charged Electric Penguins with composing and recording its 'score' and incidental stings for not only the Channel 4 series but also its entire launch and accompanying activities.  In this session is a cover of  "By This River", an electro masterpiece from Brian Eno, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius.

2fm Studio8 Session

Whipping Boy are:

Finn McGowan - guitar,
Joey McGowan - bass,
Killian McGowan - guitar,
Colm Hassett - drums ,
Fearghal McKee - vocal,
Alan D'Arcy  - sax.

It's been a decade and a half since Whipping Boy recorded a 2fm Session, so to mark the release of their new single, they visited Studio 8 once again. And they have just released  'No One Take Prisoners Anymore' (and b-side 'Earth's Last Picture') -their first new material in almost 12 years. One of the great iconic Irish acts of the last 25 years, Whipping Boy returned in 2011 to an Irish live scene. The album Heartworm is described in the following terms 'good people fucking up and fucked up people doing their best to be good'.  And the years have not dulled their ability to be unpredictable, over the top and brilliant at the same time..

Listen to Suzies Ashes Studio 8 Session

Recorded 8 November, 2011

2fm Studio8 Session

SUZIES ASHES is/are Colm Rutledge

One of the several offshoots of Humanzi- The origin of Suzies Ashes lay in Berlin as far back as 2007 Taking his signature riffs from former band, Dublin hedonists Humanzi, Colm Rutledge  bolts them onto industrial strength electronic beats. The Humanzi era helped Colm become a hugely accomplished live performer as they toured incessantly, playing huge shows alongside The Pixies, Foo Fighters, The Strokes, Kings Of Leon, to name but a few... and also toured at length with Peaches, Juliette Lewis, Dirty Pretty Things and more throughout the UK and Europe. All of this experience means that despite having to start from square one with Suzies Ashes, Rutledge knows what he is doing, to put it mildly.
