Listen to Daithí Studio 8 Session

Recorded: 16/05/2011

2fm Studio8 Session

Galway based Daithí (Ó Drónaí) uses loopstations, kaoss Pads, synthesizers, effects pedals and drum machines to create a unique and exceptional sound all centered around one instrument: the Fiddle.

Some people call it post trad, others say it's Indie traditional electro math rock looped with a twist, whatever the genre the end result is energetic, loud and a damn good time.

Daithí's debut year was a successful one, with performances in festivals such as Castle Palooza, Knockanstockan, an exceptional Electric picnic set on the body and soul main stage, a performance in wembley arena to a 10,000 strong crowd, and support slots to the XX and Dj Shadow.

This year Daithí was on tv, Other Voices in the Other Room, and is  touring the country on the back of his debut E.P, The Embrace E.P, which was recorded in the Forge Studio Galway, produced and engineered by David Phelan of The Lost Chord.

And we must not forget that he (and his fiddle) made the 2009 final of the All Ireland Talent Show- but that was a bit different.

The four girls quickly released a demo ep, and started gigging at some of the top venues around the country, such as Dolans Warehouse Limerick, Twisted Pepper and Crawdaddy in Dublin, Pavilion, An Brog, Crushcin Lan, and Fred Zeppelins in Cork, Stables Mullingar, Roisin Dubh Galway and many more.
Their demo version of Safety Pin Grin received airplay on online radio, as well as on 2fm.

The girls played a couple of music festivals in summer 2010 including Milk, where they drew the biggest crowd that their stage got all day.

The first studio ep, officially released on May 5th 2011, was recorded three months earlier and was funded entirely BY fan donations on chipin.com. This American website (chipin.com) allowed fans to raise $1000, funding the entire recording. The EP titled 'Red Balloon' was launched in Dolans Warehouse in Limerick.

The title track 'RED BALLOON' was the first single from the EP and debuted on Dan Hegarty's show on 2fm in April this year and has achieved regular airplay ever since. The girls have appeared in some national magazines, including high praise from Hot Press magazine.

Listen to the Karman Line RTÉ Cork Session

Recorded in RTE Cork Studio, Father Matthew St, Cork: 9 May 2011
2fm Studio8 Session
The Karman Line are:
Jack Ahern and Brian Murphy: various synths and controllers
Don Canny: real live drums

Jack and Brian are the Karman Line, Cork duo who are, in their own words "Rising like a two-headed phoenix from the ashes of various musical what-ifs and maybes, the Karman Line have spent the last four years crafting their own unique brand of brain-blitzing mutant psychedelia, joining the dots between 4/4 sensibilities and skyscraper beats, experimentalist electronica and indie persuasions.

Continuously working on new material - despite the recent unleashing of their meticulously-assembled debut ep - TKL strive to please both dance-floor junkies and melody-hungry trendies without compromising what they believe in. The least-hyped, most-promising Irish outfit around, they are "a treasure awaiting discovery from the wider public," according to 2fm's Dan Hegarty. Meet the Karman Line." Quite!

Recorded in RTE Cork Studio, Father Matthew St, Cork.

Listen to The Lost Brothers Studio 8 Session

2fm Studio8 Session

The Lost Brothers are Mark McCausland and Oisin Leech and both play guitars and sing.

Some say the lost brothers sound like a ragged everly brothers.
Others say they sound like the lost brothers.
It is said that the lost brothers formed three years ago in the summer heat of liverpool.
It is also said that the lost brothers wrote a book of songs that autumn, and in the dead of winter they recorded the songs in an attic in Portland, Oregon.
We know that the lost brothers released these songs on their debut album (trails of the lonely) to a heap of praise from the likes of NME,The Irish Times, Word magazine, Hot Press, and their fans (losties).
Through the following year, The Lost Brothers have been spotted in person, performing at Glastonbury, Electric Picnic, Texas (SXSW), New York, Portland, Toronto, Paris, and a hop, skip and jump across the land of the UK and their beloved Ireland. In their journeys they have toured and played along with many, including Richard Hawley, M Ward, Jolie Holland, The Handsome Family,The Swell Season,Micah P Hinson, Richmond Fontaine,Brendan Benson,Mountain Man among others. They have also performed on RTE's Other Voices,France 24 and on the BBC Culture Show.
It is whispered that the lost brothers have recorded a number of songs in Sheffield under watchful eyes and a new album will be upon us late summer...
The band have just returned from Nashville where they were working on new songs with Brendan Benson as producer. Some of Old Crow Medicine Show and the Cardinals lent a hand in the studio. They also caught the ear of the Barbara Orbison's office where they recorded a song for the 75th Roy Orbison anniversary album. In june 2011 the Lost Brothers share the bill with Bob Dylan and Van Morrison at the London Feis.

This session was recorded before they jetted of to Texas for SXSW.
