Originally a duo, The Dying Seconds is now a fully-fledged band, comprised of: David Cantan, Jack Quilligan, Gary Donald, Charlie Keegan, Naomi Moriarity and Mark Rooney. Their current album 'Glimmerers' has been mentioned in the same breath as acts like The National and Efterklang. Added to this, The National's Aaron Dessner described the album as "the ferocious coming out of a great new band, a stunningly beautiful and ambitious debut album."

When you think of fascinating musical careers, Sean O'Hagan's shouldn't be far from your thoughts. After being part of seminal Irish group Microdisney in the 1980s, he went on to form The High Llamas; a band that he is a part of to this day.
Prolific, inventive, yet always wearing their influences for all to hear, The High Llamas' will celebrate 20 years together later this year. Sean O'Hagan has chosen the tracks for tonight's Five-Track Shuffle.

The reaction from an unsuspecting audience when seeing The New Free live is "I've really never heard anything like this before",  "Too Many Drugs" is a killer tune and also on that release is  "You Shook Me (Medley)" by AC/DC and Shane McGowan. Also drafted in for the session was Jerry O'Connor (Four Men and a Dog- famed banjo, fiddle and mandolin player) who is James' dad!

The dEUS vocalist brings us this week's Five-Track Shuffle. The Belgian rock band have been together for more than two decades, and released one of their strongest albums last year. 'Keep You Close' was their first in three years, and saw them winning 'Best Belgian Act' award at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
