ON THE SHOW - NOV 1 TO NOV 4:

LOGIKPARTY IN THE 2FM STUDIO SESSION - MONDAY, NOV 1

Logikparty.jpg

Dublin four-piece Logikparty played their first gig in January, and since then they've played with acclaimed experimental noiseniks LIARS, post-punk giants Mission of Burma and were recently invited to collaborate with NYC's renowned visual artist Martha Colburn (The Devil and Daniel Johnson, Deerhoof) at the Waterfront Hall as part of the Belfast Trans Festival 2010.

Releases to date (2-track 7" 'Good Hood / Iodine' and more recently the 'High Risk Narcissist' EP as the newest signings to The Richter Collective) have garnered favourable public & press reaction with Rough Trade UK referencing them to "..the Post Punk scree of early Fall or the calamitous sound of prime Huggy Bear", while State Magazine praising their "..abrasive, No-Wave influenced sound ...easily one of the best live bands on the scene..."

Logikparty are Stevie Dake, Gib Cassidy, Daniel Joyce and Benni Johnston.

THE NATIONAL LIVE AT THE ELECTRIC PICNIC 2010 - THURSDAY, OCT 28:

The National.jpg

The band from Cincinatti, Ohio, now based in New York came to Stradbally in September and were one of the undoubted high points of the whole weekend.  High Violet, their 5th album confirmed the band in the mega league reaching 3 in the Billboard Charts in the US, 3 in Ireland, 5 in Britain and top 30 in 15 countries.

The band supported Barack Obama's presidential candidacy in 2008. In July of that year, the band designed and sold a t-shirt featuring Obama's image above the words "Mr. November," a reference to both their song from 'Alligator' (their third album) and the month of the U.S. presidential election. All proceeds were donated to Obama's campaign.

Their song 'Fake Empire' was used by the Obama campaign at many high-profile events during the election. On November 4, 2008, 'Fake Empire' was used again as part of a video shown in Grant Park prior to Barack Obama's victory speech on election night.

Recorded by 2fm on the Main Stage Electric Picnic, Sunday Sept 5, 2010.

WINDINGS IN THE RTE 2FM SESSION REPEAT - MONDAY, OCTOBER 18

Windings 2010.jpg

Windings is the creation of Steve Ryan, half of the duo that was Giveamanakick. The windings story began in 2005, when Steve released the self titled debut album on Out On A Limb Records to a multitude of positive reviews from music media and fans alike and invitations to perform at many festivals including Electric Picnic.

Three years later, long time collaborator and friend Liam Marley became a fully fledged member of the band, bringing his dynamic multi-instrumentalism and song-writing skills to the table. Liam's influence was instantaneous and the windings sound began to evolve, just as Steve had hoped it would. 2009 saw the arrival of a further three winders - Aaron Mulhall taking on drum duties and Patrick O' Brien on guitars/bass/keyboards/glockenspiels/kitchen sinks.

The second Windings album 'It's Never Night' was released earlier this month, and the celebrate that we're repeating this Session, which was originally performed live on Dan's show in April.

R.S.A.G. FIVE-TRACK SHUFFLE - WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 20

RSAG.jpg

This week Jeremy Hickey (aka R.S.A.G.) takes control of Five-Track Shuffle. The Kilkenny one-man-band is currently promoting his album 'Be It Right Or Wrong', which was released in June.

Taking influences as diverse as Fela Kuti, Fugazi and Miles Davis, R.S.A.G has created a sound that is very much his own. He's also been shortlisted for the Choice Music Prize (for his previous album 'Organic Sampler').

PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED LIVE AT THE ELECTRIC PICNIC 2010 - THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21

PIL.jpg

For many, PIL were the highlight of this year's Electric Picnic. John Lydon was his usual irreverent self, but would you have him any other way?

The UK group was formed by Lydon in 1978 after leaving the Sex Pistols. Original members included Keith Levene (guitar), Jah Wobble (bass), and Jim Walker (drums).
The band signed to Virgin Records shortly after, and released their debut single 'Public Image' in October. This was followed by the album 'Public Image - First Issue' in December, barely six months after forming.

Much of 2008 was spent writing new material and performing live with such heavyweights as These Arms Are Snakes, The Locust, Liars, Sebadoh, Chrome Hoof and Gang Gang Dance. In March 2009 these dynamic mammals (yes BATS are mammals) crossed the Atlantic to record their debut full-length, 'Red in Tooth & Claw', with Kurt Ballou (Converge) in Godcity Studios, located in the icy heart of Salem, Massachusetts. The album was released in September 2009.

The Wicklow-based three-piece have spent much of their time touring outside of Ireland over the past number of years. This show was recorded in early 2010, just before the release of their current (and fifth) studio album 'Age Of The Fifth Sun'.

Since their formation in 2002, GIAA have received airplay on MTV UK and on other MTV European networks. In 2009 they were named in the top 90 artists of the year on lastfm, and through their touring that year, they played to an estimated 30,000 people. ON DAN'S SHOW - OCTOBER 4 TO 7

REKO IN THE 2FM STUDIO SESSION - MONDAY OCT 4

Reko.jpg

Reko were recent finalists in the Our Thursday's Arthur's Day competition. This is the first session for the Kilkenny band. Formed in early 2009, they are comprised of Kevin Broderick (instruments, production) Stephanie Coady (vocals), Aine Mahony (synth) and James Walsh (drums).

Their debut single 'Stop My Eyes' broke into the Irish charts upon it's first week of release, and an album is due for release this month. The album titled 'Daywalker' is layered with hints of their influences, with touches of Crystal Castles and The Prodigy throughout, and even a nod to the Batman franchise with the name of the aforementioned duet being lifted from a line in 1989's Batman movie.

VILLAGERS LIVE AT THE ELECTRIC PICNIC 2010 - THUR OCT 7

Villagers 2010.jpg

2010 has been quite a year in the career of Conor O'Brien and his Villagers cohorts. The debut album 'Becoming A Jackal' received critical acclaim, and reached the number one spot in the Irish Charts, it was also shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize.

This Electric Picnic set was in many ways his crowning performance, and Dan has the highlights of it for you tonight.
