TALULAH DOES THE HULAH IN THE 2fm SESSION - MON, NOV 30

Brought together by a mutual love of the tropics, harmonies, bouffants, sex, sunshine, outdoor drinking and of course wickedly clever and sexy pop tunes, Talulah Does The Hula is a brand-new Irish indie-pop quintet. Made up of ex-members of The Chalets and Neosupervital, Lauren, Jessie, Caoimhe, Paula and Mike, TDTH are inspired by a love of lush harmonies and danceable beats from the Shangri-La's to The Cars, and with the quirky habit of swapping instruments & vocals.

TUCAN IN THE 2fm SESSION REPEAT - WED NOV 25

Arriving in from Sligo, in a flurry of Spanish guitars, 'tis Tucan. Túcan's debut album - Aliquot Strings was released on 29th May 09 and went straight into the Irish Charts. Aliquot, meaning several in Latin, is an apt choice of word to indicate the variety of sounds which fluidly grace and infuse this album. In this short space of time, they have supported such luminaries as José Feliciano, contemporaries such as Rodrigo y Gabriela and even being requested by Regina Spektor to support her having been noticed busking. They have played with Daara J, Dervish, Alabama 3 and Kila with Lance Hogan of Kila fame producing Aliquot Strings in the Pickering Forest studios in Kildare.

ALABAMA 3 LIVE AT PICNIC 09 - THURS, NOV 19

Alabama 3 is a pop band, a punk rock, blues and country techno situationist crypto-Marxist-Leninist electro pop band. They claim that they never went on X Factor or Pop Idol or Stooge Quest. They did it the old fashioned way - Back in 1996 they threw a big old party and invited all their friends. Quite similar to their gig at Electric Picnic.

TINY MAGNETIC PETS IN THE 2fm SESSION - MON, NOV 9

Paula Gilmer and Sean Quinn have made a stunning debut of wistful and etheral electro pop with avant garde experimentalism. There is a devil in tracks such as 'Tempelhof' and 'Spaced' that electronic music fans will love. And 'Control Me' hints at big room dancefloor remixes that could win them even more fans.

Simian Mobile Disco.jpg

SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO LIVE AT PICNIC 09 - THURS, NOV 12

Back in the late '90s, James Ford and Jas Shaw were studying biology at and philosophy respectively at Manchester University, while crafting strange electronic music in the spare room of their shared house. Fellow student Simon Lord, a folk-influenced singer-songwriter, caught wind of the duo's sonic experiments, and along with bass player Alex MacNaughten they formed the band Simian, signed a major label deal and did quite well. In order to sate their love of electronic party music, James and Jas booked themselves DJ dates while touring with Simian and called themselves Simian Mobile Disco.

At around the same time, their record company decided to launch a competition for bedroom acts to remix the Simian track 'Never Be Alone'. A then unknown French production duo called Justice entered and, famously, didn't win. Nevertheless, the remix was picked up by DJs like Erol Alkan and became something of a party anthem. You still hear it played regularly in clubs now, four years after its initial release. It gave James and Jas the boost to strike out on their own as DJs, remixers and producers of thumping electronic party tunes. Simian Mobile Disco became a going concern.
