Jason Byrne on Friday's Show

Jason Byrne 2.jpg

One of our favourite Irish comedians is Jason Byrne so we're delighted he's going to pop by tomorrow (Friday) to have a chat with us. He's always great fun whenever we have him on the show and it's liable to go anywhere with the Byrnemeister involved.

It's been a great year for him and he's topping it all off with a special Christmas show at Vicar Street in Dublin tomorrow night.

There's a small amount of tickets still available. Check out Ticketmaster for more details. And don't forget to tune in to tomorrow's show to hear the man himself.

POLLS OF THE DECADE

All this week we're counting down various Polls of the Decade and on Wednesday we got listeners to vote for their Movies of the Noughties while on Thursday, it was all about their favourite TV Shows of the Noughties. Here are the results.

MOVIES:

Not surprisingly, franchises featured heavily, with Harry Potter (voted for as one rather than each specific film), Batman Begins and Casino Royale featuring in the top ten while the number one spot went to the Lord of the Rings trilogy (once again voters decided not to differentiate between each movie and voted for them together). Comedy also featured heavily in the chart but what was surprising was that the top comedy was also a close runner up to Lord of the Rings and was only released in the summer of 2009 - The Hangover. Here is the countdown in full:

15.       Superbad

14.       Slumdog Millionaire

13.       Lost in Translation

12.       The Notebook

11.       Gran Torino

10.       Blood Diamond

 9.       Mama Mia

 8.       Anchorman

 7.       Batman Begins

 6.       Harry Potter

 5.       The Bourne Trilogy

 4.       Casino Royale

 3.       The Departed

 2.       The Hangover

 1.       The Lord of the Rings trilogy

lord-of-the-rings.jpg

TV SHOWS

Although there was no surprise in seeing the likes of Lost, The West Wing and The Sopranos on the list, there was a bit of a shock with the runaway winner for the number one spot. Only one Irish TV show made it into the Top Ten and that was Pure Mule. Shows that began broadcasting in 1999 were eligible for the vote.

10.       Family Guy

9.        The Sopranos

8.        Pure Mule

7.        The West Wing

6.        The Wire

5.        Gavin & Stacey

4.        Lost

3.        Prison Break

2.        Shameless

1.        Two and A Half Men

THURSDAY'S RECOMMENDS

It's that time of the week again. This week Jacqui kicked off our Recommends slot by suggesting people go to the Panto - tis the season and all that. Jack and the Beanstalk is playing in Cork (Jacqui's hometown dontcha know) which is why she recommended that as the one to go see.

It's in the Cork Opera House from December 12th until January 10th.

Jack & Beanstalk.jpg

Jim-Jim's suggestion was a website where parents can go to get a message from Santa for their kids. Jim recently logged on to get a message sent to his little friends Ruby and Max and lo and behold they got personal messages from Santa. And the exciting thing is, Santa doesn't just send messages to little kids, he sends them to kids of ALL ages so log on to surprise your loved ones with their own personal message from Santa.

Finally, Colm recommended people go see Madness play the O2 on December 28th. Tickets are now on sale and are available through Ticketmaster online and at all Ticketmaster outlets around the country.

THURSDAY'S RECOMMENDS

This week on Recommends, Amanda was sitting in for Jacqui and she got the ball rolling by recommending people think about spending money not on novelty Christmas gifts or presents that nobody really wants or needs like socks, but instead on charity Christmas gifts like those being offered in Oxfam Ireland's Unwrapped Initiative. There are 30 gifts in total ranging from chicks and goats and piglets to school books and cooking stoves and fish ponds. You purchase the gift in the name of a family member or friend and they receive a card saying what was bought and the gift itself goes to a needy community in the Third World.

Find out more at www.oxfamirelandunwrapped.com or else call into your local Oxfam shop for further information.

Jim-Jim recommended getting Peter Kay's new book Saturday Night Peter. It carries on where his previous autobiography left out and concentrates on his comedy career, charting how he took to the road and did stand up in pubs and clubs all over Britain in the hope of making a name for himself. Jim Jim says any fan of Peter Kay will love it and it's hilarious from start to finish.

Saturday Night Peter.jpg

And Colm recommended that if you're a handyman or tradesman of some description, take part in this Saturday's special volunteer day where tradesmen from all over the country are donating their time and skills to help rebuild towns and villages that were most heavily hit by the floods.

TIGER WOODS ON THE TELEPHONE

Tiger and Elin.jpg

This morning on the show we played you an alleged voicemail message that Tiger Woods left one of the ladies he's been linked with... and then myseriously, Jim Jim did a bit of investigative journalism of his own and found a few more messages Tiger left on the telephone... for Sharon Ni Bheolain, Twink, Thierry Henry and Sepp Blatter

€10,000 PRIZE - COUNTDOWN CONTINUES

Our excitement is reacing fever pitch at this stage because this week on the show we're giving you the chance to win a whopping 10,000 euro spending spree thanks to Buy4Now.ie

TIGER'S BIRDIE

tiger-woods.jpg

There's been nothing but talk these past few days of exactly what's going on with Tiger Woods and his relationship with wife Elin. Well, another woman has now come forward claiming she's had an alleged affair with the world number one golfer for the past two years!!!

And according to Jacqui Sports on this morning's show, this woman claims to have EVIDENCE, including a voicemail message Tiger left on her phone on November 24th, informing her his wife was suspicious he is having an affair and an audio clip of this message is going to be uploaded on US magazine's website later today (Wednesday).

If you want to keep an eye on their site so you can listen to this voicemail that allegedly was left by Tiger Woods when it's eventually uploaded, go to their home page at US Magazine

This Week's Charity X-Factor Bets

Last weekend, Jim-Jim won €100 for his chosen charity Crumlin Children's Hospital thanks to Boylesports, by correctly predicting that Lloyd would go home last Sunday so well done Jim-Jim.

Lloyd-Daniels.jpg

So once again the lads had to pick this morning who will go this coming Sunday night, the one contestant they each believe who won't make it to the X-Factor Final the weekend of Dec 12/13.

Colm has picked Danyl Johnson to be the one that will miss out on a spot in the Final while Jim-Jim went for Stacey Solomon.

Stacey-Solomon.jpg

And in case you need reminding, Jim-Jim actually went for Danyl to win the whole thing while Colm is looking good with his pick Joe, who is the current favourite to be crowned the champ.

And thanks to Leon from Boylesports, who offered both lads a "rumour" bet. If the rumours/events actually end up in the papers, Boylesports will donate money to the chosen charity.

So with this in mind, Colm predicted that Stacey will discover she's Barbara Windsor's long lost granddaughter while Jim Jim predicted that the rivalry between Dannii and Simon will develop into a full-on incident between the pair eg water throwing, fisticuffs or the like.
