UNUSUAL PETS

Today to mark our involvement with World Animal Week and our efforts to find Ireland's Best Loved Dog and Cat, we asked you for your more unusual pets. Not everyone wants to have a dog or a budgie, some people would prefer... well, why don't we let our listeners tell you what they have... check out these texts we got this morning... and here's a few pictures too of the type of animals people have as pets in this country (not actual pets of course)

We had a goat called nell that was kept with the cows in the field. When the cows were brought in for milking Nell would let herself into the kitchen, open the press under the dresser take out the bread and wait until one of us opened it and give her a slice. Then she would go out again. This took plae every evening for many years.

I have 2 Siberian Huskeys a cat a 6ft Albino boa a 4ft ground boa and a 4ft red Iguana. I used to have a collection of 30 reptiles but i sold some and donated some to 2 reptile zoo when i had my son 9 months ago.

We had a pet baby snail. My little girl jodie 4 love it and brough it home. She called it gary for 2 months. She cryed when i told her garys Mammy was lookin for him. She stil talks bout it

Got 1 african plated lizard, 1 siameze fighting fish and 38tarantulas of all colors, even blue green and red (though not usually at the same time!)

Hi my name is sara we have a pet pig called lu lu she lives in the house with us, she is cleaner than a dog. Great pet she is toilet trained an all. My mum brings her around in the car an is tryin to teach her to lead.

Hey lads,i have 1 7ft red tailed boa,1 royal python,3 collared lizards,5 leopard geckos,1 bearded dragon,3 green tree frogs,1 grey tree frog,1 dalmation crested gecko,incubating 5 leo eggs,10 cats & 5 dogs soon 2 b 6!bit of d zoo i think!

We have 2 pygmy goats named ted and dougal

 I have a 7 and a half foot long boa constrictor snake called barack! Eats frozen rats

Me and my brother have two snakes (one red & one brown) and a leopard gecho. We feed them live crickets, locusts (mum cringes) and frozen mice! Jack & stan :)

My sis has a snake who won't eat the frozen mice so she heats them in the microwave.

My family have a 13 year old gold fish called Homer- my dad feeds him bluebottles that are unlucky enough to fly into our house. Maria. Dublin

We have a gorgeous leopard Gecko and a black tom cat called tu pac who thinks he is a dog and plays fetch . Niamh in kk

My girlfriend has a tarantula we feed it crickets which are scarier that the spider. .he is about the size of your hand. His bite would be like a really bad bee sting. Paul in wex

I have a 5ft Corn Snake called Berty, he's a bit of an excape artist he got out of his tank last week and went on the missing list. Well let me tell you something lads my mother wasnt happy at all. Keith Q
