The television version of the book 'The Slap' is due to air this evening. The plot of the book centres on a dispute over an incident when a child is disciplined by an adult who is not their parent. Aidan Mullen who is a member of the 'You Boys in Green' Irish Supporters Group and they have launched their 'Go green' Campaign. There were images in all the papers this morning of the dead body of Colonel Gaddafi. On all the news bulletins last night we saw the graphic images immediately prior to his death. What do we think of this kind of graphic imagery in news nowadays? Is it right from a news perspective to censor images if they are available? Or should we in fact censor the graphic detail for reasons of taste and decency?

 

 

 

 

Also there was news of a dispute last night in a Dublin pub between Paul Galvin and satirist Oliver Callan over the content of a sketch which Callan had put together about Galvin and his rumoured new love interest. Colm played the sketch and wondered what all the fuss was about

A Public Health Minister in England said that children should be encouraged to walk when they are old enough rather then being brought around in buggies all the time. Do you think this is a good suggestion? Are children in buggies getting too old? Is life so busy that you cannot let your three year old walk with you to the shops? Also on the show today we found out more about a story which was in today's papers about how 60 teenagers watched as a man was beaten badly by two men outside a community centre in Athea in Limerick.  None of the parents of the teenagers who witnessed the event want them to give evidence in the case. Mr Leech, the victim, has asked for leniency for the men who beat him up and following the case he went over to shake the men's hands.  Colm spoke to Mr Leech's daughter and to one of the boys involved in the attack.

Colm went live to the draw for the European Championships play-offs to find out who Ireland will be playing to get in to the finals - He was joined on the line by former Republic of Ireland striker Richard Saddlier who gave his feelings when the news came in that Ireland will face Estonia.

There was some debate last night in wake of the Ireland match as to whether we are good enough to qualify for the finals of the European Championships. Eamon Dunphy may have annoyed people with his, some would say, pessimistic outlook for the Irish Soccer Team.  Colm talks to listeners about Eamon's post-mortem of the game.

Also comments made during the presidential debates have brought up the suggestion of Ireland re-joining the Commonwealth.  Colm reads texts from listeners about joining the Commonwealth and the benefits of joining.

Colm was joined in studio by psychologist Allison Keating who operates the Be Well Clinic - www.bewell.ie . There has been an increase in stress levels in modern life.  Alison had advice for anyone feeling stressed.  Colm also talked to Deborah who works as a clown doctor in Crumlin Children's Hospital and believe that sometime laughter really is the best medicine.

Last week on the show we spoke to some people who were living with diabetes whether type one or type two.
