THURSDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER 2010

On today's show we discussed the thorny issue of homework and whether children in Primary school should have to do homework - lots of different views, as you'd expect:  Karen told her about her 6 year old coming home from his 2nd day in first class - he was exhausted and cried after doing his maths homework......  Sinead thinks a little homework is a good thing as it lets you see if your child is understanding what's being taught in school during the day and Seamus told us that the school his children attend have guidelines laid down as to how long a child should spend doing homework - if they're taking too long you can approach the teacher to see if there are any issues with the child or with the teaching.....

A recent survey found that Smokers Lie - they lie about whether they smoke when filling in Insurance Forms, they like about how many a day they smoke when they go to the doctor - we had lots of calls from smokers about the lies they have told and that they tell themselves....like Ciara who told us she quit smoking 3 years ago but still smokes when she's out socially!!!!  Monica shared her concerns about her daughter who smokes and how it's showing in her physical appearance.....

And we caught up with Mary who we spoke to during the week.  Mary hadn't been to the dentist in years and eventually summoned up the courage to pay a visit to her dentist.  We spoke to her after her dental appointment this morning..... and she only needed 2 fillings - so she was happy enough and glad that she took courage in hand and made that appointment!!!!
