A PRETTY IN PINK KIND OF GUY

A PRETTY IN PINK KIND OF GUY

Hackett London

Who said pink was just for girls? This season the boys also get a chance to enjoy the mouth-watering sorbet colours gracing catwalks.

The spring summer collection from Hackett London evokes escape to sand-swept terrains and summer in all its glory. Natural fabrics play a key role in the collection with garment dyed linens and cottons printed with floral patterns and motifs. The cut is also more streamlined, without being skinny, harking back to 1950's style. More...

OH LA LA! PARIS STYLE GUIDE

Darren Kennedy.jpg
Paris Shopping
Paris may be considered the city of love but, romance aside, it can be paradise for shoppers too. I was lucky enough to live and work in the city. When friends flew over to visit, they inevitably wanted to gather up some Parisian chic and bring it back to show off at home. I developed a little treasure-trail of fashion fancies and cute bijoux boutiques which never failed to please. Here's my tried-and-tested guide to shopping (to keep Irish visitors happy!) in Paris.

If you've any suggestions for shopping, food or whatever please let us know and we'll add it.

The Marais The vibrantly-gay Marais area of Paris naturally features numerous upscale boutiques but avoid the neon stores and go for old-world charm instead and you're in for a treat. Maverick retailers stock quality vintage-wear and bespoke jewellery galore. Get lost and find a bargain! Scoff some falafel if you get peckish - it's also the Jewish quarter.

DOM Christian Koban (21 Rue Sainte Croix la Bretonnerie) What is probably best described as a more edgy Urban Outfitters, DOM sell everything from rubber raincoats to uber-funky furniture. They stock a range of clothes and jewellery and tend to have a small but adorable selection of both men's and women's-wear with really great price tags. Last time I was there, I left with 2 pairs of jeans, a scarf and a jumper with change from €100. (more...)

TREND WATCH SS10: FUTURE WARRIOR

TREND WATCH SS10: FUTURE WARRIOR
Future Warrior

One of the hottest trends for Spring Summer 2010 in my eyes has to be 'Future Warrior'. This fierce, sexy, powerful look is the next evolution of the military trend. Essentially it's a mish mash of tribal elements and military detailing flash-forwarded to a galactic age.

It's without question one of my favourite trends to grace the runways this season. At the core of this trend is ancient warrior elements modernised with futuristic twists. It features plenty of metal plating, leather tunics, chain-mail inspired detailing, tribal inspired motifs and breastplate-like accents. Read more...

DAZZLE IN METALLIC

DAZZLE IN METALLIC
Metallic trend

I first fell in love on a trip to New York about two years ago - no not with a person but with a pair of metallic silver converse. After some initial panic of not being able to hunt down a pair in my size, I was prepared, as I often am, to work through the pain of wearing a size smaller just to have them. As fortune would have it, a shiny pair of size 10's was waiting for me in a little shop in Soho.

Like any good pair of converse, they've matured well and to this day I relish popping them on with a pair of dark navy jeans - they give the perfect amount of 'pop' to any outfit. Over the past couple of seasons womenswear runways have been shimmering with shiny colors and all sorts of metallics, a look that is set to continue into Spring Summer 2010 with new trends such as Future Warrior. As is often the case, a couple of seasons later the trend really takes hold in menswear, trickling down to the highstreet. More...

KNOW YOUR BRA SIZE?

KNOW YOUR BRA SIZE?

M&S Bras

Putting aside the latest trend of wearing underwear as outerwear (yes, corsets, bra-tops, tight-highs and the like, worn as outerwear have appeared all over the catwalks of Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier & Dior etc) the importance of wearing the correct size bra should never be under-estimated.

A great fitting bra will not only make your clothes sit properly but it can also help emphasise your waistline, giving more definition to your body shape and It will improve posture... not to mention how much more comfortable you'll feel.

So I ask you, when was the last time you had a bra fitting? As most of us are only too familiar with, our shape and size change frequently so it's recommended that women have a bra fitting every six months! More...

EMMA WATSON & 'PEOPLE TREE'

Emma Watson

One trend that has captured the imagination of designers and consumers alike this season is ethical fashion. Celebrities have jumped on board - Natalie Portman, Jo Wood and singer Little Boots, are just some of the names who are all eager to flaunt their ethical fashion foot print.

Harry Potter actress and face of Burberry, Emma Watson is the latest starlet to go ethical and has teamed up with 'People Tree' to create the "Love Emma" collection. The actress has taken time out from her studies at American University Brown to work as creative advisor along side the 'People Tree' design team to create a capsule collection influenced by her own personal style.

The collection includes cosy knits, organic cotton tees, poplin skirts and shorts in fabrics such as organic and fair trade cotton. The much anticipated range gives a fresh twist on Fair Trade fashion and will debut at Arnotts Project, Jervis Centre late February 2010.

'People Tree' garments are made by hand by fair trade groups in Bangladesh, India and Nepal. Through this action People Tree are helping to co-ordinate and provide livelihoods for underprivileged people living in these countries.

THE DANES DO IT AGAIN

THE DANES DO IT AGAIN
CREAM

The Danes are renowned for their design aesthetic when it comes to two things - furniture and clothes. Furniture aside, walking the streets of Copenhagen it's hard not to notice their great eye for style when it comes to dressing.

Hence why I wasn't at all surprised to discover that clothing label 'Cream' originates in Denmark. More...

WEDDING DRESS TRENDS FOR 2010

WEDDING GOWN trends

As the big day approaches it can be difficult trying to stay 'on trend' and choose a wedding dress that compliments your body shape. Here we share some favourite styles from this season and how to make them work for you.

The catwalks might have moved on to Autumn-Winter trends for 2010 but that's not much good to you if you're getting married over the next few months. If you haven't decided on your wedding dress (or are thinking of chucking the one you impulse bought six months ago and going for a different style!) now is a good time to take a look at current trends and decide how you can add some of your own personality and individuality to your wedding day look. If the big day is fast-looming and you're still on the hunt for the perfect bridal gown, the good news is that current wedding fashion trends are really diverse. You can have a wedding-gown style based on pretty much any era of fashion and still be extremely fashionable right now. How you wear it will make all the difference.

SLINKY SILHOUETTES BRINGING SEXY BACK Whether you've got a fabulous, slim figure or just some fantastic control underwear, now is the time to rejoice as sexy, figure-hugging wedding dress silhouettes are hot, hot, hot. (more...)

Few people can list fashion designer, model, actress and TV presenter on their CV but Virginia Macari is a truly versatile vixen. Fans of Podge & Rodge will know and love her for her new role as co-host with the boys on RTE 2's Stick-it Inn. We caught up with her to talk fashion.

LUXURIOUS VOLUME FOR YOUR LOCKS

LUXURIOUS VOLUME FOR YOUR LOCKS
John Frieda
By Debbie Spillane

My crowning glory is eternally plagued by frizz and split ends - inspite of me dolloping every known smoothing and protecting product on my tresses. Recently, I've noticed that my efforts have resulted in tame, but limp and lack-luster locks - and I wasn't sure how to add that extra oomph.

But help was at hand in the form of John Frieda's Luxurious Volume line, in particular, the Luxurious Volume Full Splendor conditioner. More...
